About us

Welcome to Peper Harow Cricket Club's Guildford Community Lottery Page. We are one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world, being established in 1727, when we played our first match v The Gentleman of Goodwood.

Peper Harow was the seat of Alan Brodrick, 1st Viscount Midleton who was succeeded by his son Alan Brodrick, 2nd Viscount Midleton in the viscountcy on 29 August 1728. Before succeeding, the latter made his mark as a cricket patron by arranging major matches against his friend Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond. Records have survived of two such games that took place in the 1727 season.

These two games are highly significant because Richmond and Brodrick drew up Articles of Agreement beforehand to determine the rules that must apply in their contests and were itemised in sixteen points. It is believed that this was the first time that rules (or some part of the rules as in this case) were formally agreed, although rules as such definitely existed.

Peper Harow prides itself on welcoming anyone who wants to be involved in cricket, no matter what your age nor ability. Several Colts side play at the ground along with 3 Weekend Adult matches and an occassional Midweek XI.

We, like any other sports club, are always trying to improve our ground and pavilion, to be a place where not only players, but family members are welcomed with good facilities. We are currently trying to raise funds to improve the Pavilion to also 'house' social events, so your generosity will be going towards this.

Therefore, if you can help, please do join the lottery straight away, and hopefully, with a bit of luck, a win is just around the corner for you, but you play with the knowledge of helping good causes to.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Steve Bradley

Club Chairman
