Surrey Music provides a much loved and valued service for the community.
We’re a community organisation of volunteers founded in 2005 by Cliff van Tonder BCAa, under whose leadership and direction the Society has so far created three successful community choirs of around 300 members, established a Big Band, created weekly musical sessions for adults with learning difficulties, supported a youth band, established a music grants scheme and raised more than £200,000 for various local charities and worthy causes.
Providing musical opportunties and giving something back to the community is at the heart of everything we do.
Well-known and respected in Surrey, Cliff is often approached to manage community-wide projects and, in January 2019, he was honoured with a British Citizen Award for services to the Arts.
In October 2019 the society founded Surrey Rainbow Choir, the county's first LGBTQ+ choir which rehearses weekly in Guildford.
We are a true community society – we do not audition for membership of our choirs which are open to anyone and everyone, regardless of background and musical knowledge or experience. We sing a wide range of songs – from pop and rock to songs from the stage and screen as well as some more traditional choral pieces.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!
Thank you for your support and good luck!
